Schomaker
A moment to unwind in the city.
From a Partykranz made with 30% rye to pretzels with a crisp exterior and chewy centre, discover German-style breads to try at Schomaker and enjoy at home.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
The Partykranz is made up of small rolls, each topped with a tempting mix of sunflower and pumpkin seeds, rye flakes and poppy seeds. Although it contains 30% rye, its flavour is said to be only mildly sour, with a satisfyingly dense, chewy texture. Try it plain first, then with liver pâté.
There is more to find at Schomaker than rye bread. The pretzel is described as crisp on the outside, chewy within and pleasantly salty—a good choice when you want just one bread. The Obst, with walnuts, figs and cranberries, brings together nuts and dried fruit.
For something sweet, look for bean bread filled with Dainagon and green peas. Roggenbrot, by contrast, has a moderate tang; one suggested way to enjoy it is thinly sliced with marmalade. For breakfast or a meal to take away, you could pair the sweet bean bread with a loaf that offers the flavour of grains.
This bakery offers takeaway only, with no dine-in option. Payment is cash only, so it is worth bringing some along.
